Concept stage

We visit your garden and take a full brief of your budget, needs and tastes. We measure your garden and produce a survey or, for larger or more complex plots, engage an external surveyor.

You will need to have set a budget before design work begins. Quality landscaping work and materials are not cheap: think of the cost of a new kitchen, an extension, or 10% of the value of your house as a guide. If you want a simpler design that you can execute yourself on a tight budget, then our consultations are more suitable.

We produce two different concept design options in flat plan and isometric drawings, along with moodboards and sketches of different spaces, and the additional option of a 3D visualisation of the space. Concept design binders will include suggested materials and plants. Lighting design is also included within a design package if required.

You then choose your preferred design which is taken forward to the technical documentation stage.

Technical design

A proper garden design involves full scale drawings of the space with precise measurements for hard landscaping, materials schedules and construction details for every element.

This will enable a landscaper to execute the design exactly as envisaged. It will also mean you can have confidence that your garden is being designed to industry standards and that it will last.

Build

Plot Twist is a design-only studio and we work closely with quality and respected landscapers to ensure that our designs are carried out to the highest standards: we want your garden to look the way we’ve planned!

We can help you find a landscaper from our network of trusted firms, and will be present at the start of the build when the site is being marked out. We are also available during the build to monitor progress and answer any queries.

We also visit our sites a year on from completion to assess any issues, and make sure that planting is settling well.

Planting design

Full planting design from plant specification, planting plans, sourcing plants from wholesale nurseries and other specialist suppliers, setting out plants and, if you need, planting services too.

Planting design is a specialist skill in its own right and Plot Twist gardens are unique because no site, soil or owner are the same. These plans will work for you and in your garden.

All our planting plans are designed specifically to function properly as plant communities, rather than contrived collections of plants that don’t work together. All our planting design is scored using our ecological assessments to make sure that it is adding to the local environment, not detracting from it.

You will also receive a full maintenance schedule for you or a professional gardener to carry out throughout the year.
